Amendment Seven

Amendment Seven

Original Content

In suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise reexamined in any court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.

What It Means To You

The amount of twenty dollars may seem like a small amount of money in today's standards, but back in the 1700's it was a pretty big sum of money. Now there are small claims courts set up to take care of disputes that don't require large sums of money. You don't have to worry about being tried in a court other than a state, county, national and, etc. it is illegal to set up your own courthouse.
