Southern Fried Chicken Dinner

Stacey Cherry-Tinsley prepared her first pot of collard greens at age 10. Her father, Harry, a steward in the navy during World War II, loved to cook Southern dishes and taught his youngest daughter the skills she uses today at Cherry-O's Southern Cuisine. The tidy eat-in/carryout establishment doesn't offer the fastest service. But the cooked-to-order dishes are always hot. The fried chicken dinner ($8.99) is a southern belle. The meat is juicy and the skin crispy

Savory Sub Sandwich

Don't blink while driving down Center Road in Brunswick while looking for Savory Sub Cafe. It's hidden on the side of the Family Video store. Carryout seems to be its biggest business. The menu board is no different from any other sub shop. What sets them apart, according to owner Paul Haviland, is that he and his wife, Lynn, make their bread from scratch daily. The Savory Sub ($4.79) lives up to its name. It contained loads of capicolla, ham, provolone and salami.

Nature's Bin

Nature's Bin reputation for natural food products makes it the destination for those seeking a lifestyle change. The nonprofit organization, Cornucopia, runs the store and hires people with disabilities to train for work in retail. The trek to the deli in the rear of the store takes on a vegan/vegetarian culinary tour. Once you are at the deli check out the Vegan Wild Rice Salad ($4.99 per pound). The bonding of the peas, wild rice, red onion, fresh dill and a light vinaigrette made it a fascinating taste experience.
