Welcome to
Sheila’s First Attempt
at a Website!

[insert applause here!!!!]

This website is being designed for Alan Wasco's class (Web Publishing 1, Fall 2011).

This is a simple web page to get started. As you can see, I’ve been playing a bit with some of the “other features” (attributes? elements? yikes, confusion here... ) associated with web design. I’m still a long way from calling this client-ready, but it's a start.

My Personal Goals for the Class are...

[...drumroll please...]

  1. To really dig into CSS and get a full understanding of how to use it;
  2. To take that knowledge and apply it to my own website;
  3. And then to continue to keep that knowledge fresh by working with it on a more regular basis within my profession.

Gosh, we got all serious there for a moment, but I thought you might like something honest.

Okay, well let’s lighten the mood by listing what I don't think I’ll get from the class...

  1. An instant career in web design that will vault me to celebrity stardom and line my future earnings in gold. Nope, paint me a realist, I don’t think that’s going to happen.
  2. The zen-like answers to the questions “Who am I?” or “What is my purpose in life?”
  3. The recipe to Stephanie’s killer coconut cream pie, though there is the hope that if I’m really, really nice to her she’ll give it up. She seems like a nice enough person.

Shoot, you asked for an unordered list too, naming my favorite foods. That’s actually the hardest thing to do. But here goes.

My Favorite Foods are...

I hope you find this page amusing as my goal was to make you laugh. So far I’m having a lot of fun with this class. I will confess that I was one of those who did my first website with tables. Though it wasn’t easy to make changes, it did serve its purpose in the day. In present times, I’ve been frustrated by Dreamweaver and others of its ilk (I’ve never had the time to really LEARN coding enough to understand what was going on behind-the-scenes, and the tutorials associated with the various software are just plain boring), so I’m glad to finally be taking this in in the right way.
