Social Realism
Social Realism often dealt with the issues of society and the suffering of the underclass. They captured the mood of the Great Depression, often through photographs that highlighted the hardscrabble life of most Americans.
Art Deco
On the other hand, Art Deco was popular as an optimistic, futuristic style. Its streamlined, linear look was simple and clean but also suggested affluence. Some of the greatest examples of Art Deco would be the Chrysler Building, which opened in May 1930 and was the world's tallest building until it was surpassed by the next example, the Empire State Building in May 1931. Rockefeller Center, November 1933, is also another well-known example.
