The Origins

The first evidences of the human interest in the motion phenomena can be found in the Caves of Lascaux where animals were depicted with multiples legs with superimposed positions. The ancient Egyptian murals inside the Tombs of the Pharaohs, the Trajan Column illustrating all the wars between Romans and Trojans, are magnificent monuments denotating the human interest on the moving image and animation. But is not until 1892, that Charles Emile Reynaud, a french teacher opened his "Theather Optique" and made the debut of the first short animated "Pauvre Pierrot"

The cartoon is an animation technique of giving the illusion of movement by projecting various drawings representing the successive stages of this movement.

He is best known for his success with children, even if a large share of output is not directed at them.
