Lame as it sounds, I consider yesterday to have been a pretty productive day because it ended with what you see at left. It's been months since you could actually see more than a couple of square inches of the fine woodgrain formica of my office desk. I'm not that great about filing paperwork, and there were piles of it everywhere.
Wednesday is my big office day—five hours straight—and I probably spent at least 2 hours doing nothing but sorting through old emails, student projects, books, catalogs, and other odds & ends.
I'm slightly reassured by a recent news report I heard that people with messy desks are more creative than the neat ones. I have to say, though, that clearing things away from time to time gives me the feeling of a fresh start.
Classes, so far...
OK, it's early still, but I'm encouraged by what I'm seeing in all
my classes. In Portfolio Preparation, Interactive Media, and Web
Publishing I there seems to be a lot of energy and engagement. With
only a few exceptions the students seem eager to learn. Intro to Visual
Communications started well, too, with more discussion and involvement
than most classes. Hard to say how much of this has to do with what I'm doing
vs. the students themselves. We'll see what happens as the semester moves
along. But I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts.
