The Typewriter
Christopher Latham Sholes was a mechanical engineer who invented the first practical modern typewriter. He and his colleagues spent 5 years trying to produce the typewriter. It first had a type bar system. This allowed the keys to jam up way easier. In order for this problem to be solved, it was suggested to have the keys be split up. This became today's standard QWERTY keyboard.
