What a difference a day makes
At 7:30 on Wednesday the sky was gray and snow was still falling. This was the start, of course, of a snow day for me and all the other students and teachers in Greater Cleveland.
On Thursday the view southeast from my bedroom window was a lot more cheery, with an orange-pink sunrise. The day was cold, but with some sun and no snow all day.
I've come to realize that it's not the snow and cold that makes winter seems so long, it's the lack of sun. I've heard that Cleveland has more cloudy days than any other city in the U.S.

The people have spoken...
I sent an email to a list of friend & colleagues asking for opinions on this blog/journal. It's the first time I've made any public announcement since it's still in development and has a long way to go. But now I feel like it's at least presentable.
The responses were positive, which of course makes me feel great.
Some comments:
- I like the calendar type layout.
- You are encouraging the viewer to create their own view of the world, and to be a "thoughtful and involved viewer"!! One technicality: the screen would go back to the first five or six pictures each time and I had to scroll forward to get the next picture. A bit of a pain. [maybe using the day by day navigation at the top of each page—starting in February—would be less annoying?]
- Already found some of the links useful, like the stuff on Web 2.0, as I am SO OUT OF THE LOOP on techno news being all isolated here in my cozy studio. Would like to see the ability to have postings, though that sounds like it would be more of a headache for you to manage......? Only neg. comment is the color purple, but then, Alice Walker would likely not agree. [it's not Alice Walker, it's the Cleveland weather—see below]
- I like your blog/diary. is the background color indicator of the temps in cleveland? [Yes!]
- It's a terrific idea. Coupla questions: What are those color squares up top on the right "10 10s 20s..."? Also, it took me a while to figure out I was looking at calendar. [Obviously I need to explain this better in the "About" page]
- I stole another few minutes of time and discovered "A walk in the cemetery." You brought a few tears to my eyes.
- I love it! it's really nice cause it gives me a little insight on how things are going over there...and I have to admit by reading it, I get a little bit, well, can't call it homesick...maybe Cleveland-sick?? I really miss you guys and the city... [from a German friend]
- I really enjoy the chunking of thoughts, the layout and content. You are sharing process.
Thanks to those who replied, and if you haven't, please tell me what you think.
