Always a student: learning Flash. Again.

Al's notes on making an invisible button in FlashIn addition to being a class I love to teach because the topic means a lot to me, this year's Interactive Media class has another benefit: I get to learn more about Flash because I'm co-teaching with Angela, our resident expert.

It's not that I haven't tried before. I've done a couple of projects in Flash, including a website built during the 2005 Design Inquiry event I was part of in Portland, Maine.

But at this point I'm one of those people who learns just what they need to get the job done, but doesn't understand how the software operates overall. This cookbook kind of approach lets you get a specific project done, but you end up being shackled to a few techniques that you understand. Not good for developing new ideas.

So I hope to get further along the learning curve by playing student as Angela explains things. Funny thing is that sometimes I feel the same anxiety any other student does about "not getting it" when I'm confused, even though I'm supposed to be the teacher. As always, a good learning experience in a number of ways.
