Egon Schiele (June 12, 1890- October 31, 1918) created art at a time when his principle subject, the human figure, began to decline as a valid subject within the mainstream tradition. He comes from a practice of end of the century Viennese art and is often considered as a part of the loosely Germanic-based Expressionism movement with a heavy influence from Symbolism.
