1901- Egon is sent away to prepare for a university education but does poorly.
1902- Father begins to show signs of mental impairment due to syphilis.
1904- Critically ill father attempts suicide, survives, dies months later.
1905- Egon's Uncle becomes his guardian. Meets with other local artists.
1906- Egon flunks out of school. Passes rigorous exam for Vienna's Academy of Fine Arts as its youngest student.
1908- Painting instructor Christian Griepenkerl proclaims 'God has shat you into my classroom, for God's sake don't tell anyone that I was your teacher!'
1909- Egon shows with Gustav Klimt, emboldened he forms a protest group of students and withdraws from school.
1912- One of his models runs away from home & stays with Egon and his girlfriend. The father accuses Egon of kidnapping causing a conviction based on minors having seen indecent work in his studio. He spends 24 days in jail. Participates in many shows and aquires 2 important patrons.
1913- Still lives hand-to-mouth. Continues to paint large difficult allegorical paintings which don't sell.
1914- Tries etching for additional income. Aquires new patron/student. Has second one-man show in Vienna.
1915- Drafted into army. Marries girlfriend's younger sister.
1916- Transfers to a prisoner of war camp and output continues to dwindle.
1917- He transfers again and assigned to pictorially documentat supply depots thoughout the Austo-Hungarian Empire. His career picks up. Bookseller publishes portfolio of reproductions. Begins to organize exhibitions.
1918- Mentor Gustav Klimt dies of influenza. Schiele is generally recognized as Austria's leading artist. Transfers to the Army Museum. Wife dies of influenza, Schiele dies 3 days later.
