It's official
It felt strange—and final—to sign and mail the letter to my boss that declares my intent to retire at the end of this semester.
I'm happy being an Assistant Professor of Visual Communication Design, Cuyahoga Community College.
I think I do my job pretty well. Most days I enjoy it. Some days I really love it, and once in a while it makes me crazy. But it's been great.
So why retire?
Good question.
Truth is, a lot of the motivation comes from my wife Joanne who retired a year and a half ago. She loves to point out that I could retire and do lots of other things that I just don't have time for now. Good point.
Despite my love for my job, summer break is my favorite part of the year, and my sabbatical in 2008 was wonderful. As much as I like working, I like not working even better.
But I won't be spending all my time sitting in the sun, sipping a Great Lakes Dortmunder. Other projects beckon. More later.
Update
Here's what greeted me on Monday, May 21 when I tried checking my Tri-C email.
So much for that idea.
