Food
Every few months I'm again tempted to have a fast-food burger and fries. I remember that they used to taste pretty good. What the heck, why not?
Then I again remember what's happened over and over in recent years: that juicy, meaty taste that I remembered isn't there, and the fries have an odd chemical aftertaste.
Note to self: don't do this again, OK?
Welcome to the 'hood
It was a long week for various reasons, so we needed a night out. We tried one of the newest additions to our local restaurant scene, Crop Bistro in the old bank building at 25th and Lorain.
It's a fancy joint, set in the ornate surroundings of a temple of capitalism, the United Bank Building.
The food ranged from good to terrific. Appetizers and dessert stood out, while the main courses were less memorable.
I loved my appetizer, Roasted Red Pepper Bisque. It tasted like the essence of red pepper in liquid form. Joanne had a spicy version of one of her favorites, Chili Deviled Eggs.
The main dishes, pork for me and ravioli for Joanne, were good but not exceptional.
We finished up with waffles and ice cream accompanied by cherry compote and whipped cream. Very nice.
