Geeks, designers and techies from around the world gather in Austin, TX at South by Southwest (SXSW) Interactive to learn, shmooze, and party with their peers. I was one of 30,000 who attended this year.
SXSW, Day 3
It's a short walk but an immense distance from yesterday's breakfast to today's Green Eggs & Ham at IHOP.
The scrambled eggs with chopped spinach were a surprisingly healthy option, though I doubt that many kids will fall for this version. I asked the waitress and she confirmed that most leave the eggs untouched on their plates.
I liked it, though.
A common sight throughout the conference: people charging their laptops and/or phones at a wall outlet.
The pole with a yellow cable wrapped around it is a portable wi-fi hotspot. My guess is that before long our devices will be able to recharge via wi-fi, making scenes like this a relic of the past.
There's a social aspect to this method that I'll miss. I had several pleasant conversations while sharing a prime wall outlet with others. Reminds me of how smokers cluster together outside of building to share a cigarette and some conversation.
It took a while, but finally: blue sky and sunshine. The pattern for the next couple of days was foggy and cool in the morning, followed by clearing and sun in the afternoon.
I'll take it.
I don't usually eat sushi, but it was lunchtime, it was free, and I was hungry.
The veggie sushi in the front was good, but I really like the Cajun in the back. The bite-sized pieces of spicy crawfish wrapped in sticky rice may have won me over to more experiments with sushi.
