A goal for the new year
It's easy to get caught up in the problems in your life. We all do it, some with more reason than others. As I've been dealing with my 95-year-old mother's health issues, I've slipped into that mode myself.
My son, who has plenty of complications in his own life, with 5 kids and a business to run, shared his approach: "Things happen for a reason and it is my job to find the positive!"
I don't believe that things happen for a reason. I think they just happen. But I do think that finding the positive is a good goal to have. I'm going to try.
Along those lines, a friend mentioned a book that describes a way to change your focus from the negative to the positive: A Simple Act of Gratitude: How Learning to Say Thank You Changed My Life.
I haven't read it yet, but the idea of telling people thank you just has to be better than looking inward to your own frustration and pain.
