Garden survivors

Garden with lots of peppers on the plantsThe past week has been cold and gray with the threat of frost nearly every night, colder than usual for mid-October.

The garden is hanging on, with a few tomatoes that still might ripen on the vines. The zucchini is limp and blackened, but a ton of peppers are still weighing the plants down. I had to use a chair and a concrete block to support the metal cages around the pepper plants, they are so top-heavy.

A few other plants are still producing: one of the basil plants, the parsley, the cherry tomato "volunteer" growing out of the compost. I need to pull the few remaining beets and the fennel. Sad, but there's no doubt that winter isn't far away.
