Checks & balances
I thought I was really ahead of the game when I sat down after lunch to make year-end contributions to the various non-profits we support.
Then I realized that I hadn't balanced the checkbook for two months so I needed to bring it up to date. Which I could do as soon as I found the statements buried in the piles of papers on my desk.
Then I realized that I'd forgotten to record a major withdrawal from the checking account, making the current balance a shot in the dark. Of course I had to pay the utility bills, real estate taxes, etc. due this week before I could move on. And so on.
Two and a half hours later I started to make the year-end contributions in a lot less cheery mood. Happy New Year to you, too.
