Drawing a movie
Last night at the Cleveland Cinemateque we saw a great double-feature: a talk by the storyboard artist who works with the Coen brothers on their films, followed by a screening of the Coens' Fargo.
Ohio-based artist J. Todd Anderson entertained us for two hours with an explanation of what a storyboard artist does, peppered liberally with hilarious stories about working in Hollywood.
After his initial show & tell, Anderson invited a CIA student filmmaker up on stage and worked with him to storyboard a scene from his planned movie.
Watch and listen as Anderson transfers the student's vision to paper. The film features a super-hero named Captain Ass Fat and giant mutated rabbits.
Along the way you'll learn a lot about movies as Anderson gives a mini-lecture in how a movie is made while he's sketching giant rabbits.
