Just look around
The most fun part of teaching Visual Communication is to point out to people that it's all around, we just don't always notice.
I was buying cheese at Meister's stand at the West Side Market when Nina (front, looking up) suggested that one of her co-workers take one of my classes at Tri-C. The co-worker responded "But I'm no good at art!"
I pointed to the black & white cow motif that adorns the Meister stand and said "That's visual communication...that's what we talk about...it's not art."
Maybe a small "aha!" moment on a busy Saturday, the sort of thing that happens frequently in the classroom as students come to understand the visual environment that we live in.
