Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday
I thought about volunteering a few hours of my time today to a group working to improve society, and ended up doing nothing. Not a good way to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
To make amends I was going to show here Dr. King's famous "I have a dream" speech given in Washington D.C. It's the beautiful one that makes us feel good about America.
But I instead I'm including this short clip from the very different speech Dr. King gave in Memphis the night before he was assassinated.
He's angry, defiant, even, as he shouts "So I'm happy tonight, I'm not worried about anything, I'm not fearing any man... Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord!" You have to wonder what he had seen that led him to say those words in the way that he did.
