Walking 'round the neighborhood
The Walk Score website lets you enter any U.S. address and see a map that shows nearby restaurants, parks, schools, stores, etc.
The location and distrance of these amenities from the chosen address is translated into a score that gives an indication of how "walkable" it is.
My address returned a walk score of 77/100: "Very Walkable."
As with many similar mini-programs, Walk Score uses information from Google Maps. This information can be suspect at times, particularly in the listings of businesses, etc. Some stores listed in my neighborhood were in the wrong categories or are long-gone. Still, interesting and potentially useful for learning about a neighborhood.
