Ludwigsburg, Germany
We left Jena and after another short train trip arrived in Ludwigsburg (outside of Stuttgart) last night. Our friends Kathy & Jeff had things to do this morning so we were on our own to explore the town. We slept in instead.
After lunch we went out with Kathy to see the town square and nearby palace. Along the way we enjoyed the first of many visits to an outdoor cafe, here and elsewhere.
In this case our waiter obviously understood my lame joke made in English. Kathy and I wanted to split another beer, so I asked him to "bring two straws." With a charming grin he did exactly what I asked. It's hard to see in the photo, but there are two straws in the flask of draft beer. He thoughtfully had brought a second glass and poured half the beer into it after we'd gotten a laugh out of the straws.
Palaces and gardens are a dime a dozen in Europe, and we saw our share of them. Wikipedia calls this garden at the Ludwigsburg Palace "enormous." We were more impressed by its beauty than its size.
