Lake Chautauqua, NY
We spent the day with Sharon & family (and friends and dogs) in a rented house near Lake Chautauqua, NY.
After loading the entire crew into two cars and driving to Mayville, at the north end of the lake, we're hiking along what was supposed to be a mile-long trail. The snow made the trail hard to see, and before long we ran into a dead-end.
We retraced our steps and tried going the other way, which ended at a fence. By this time the kids had pretty much lost interest in this activity, so it seemed better to go back to the house for indoor activities.
Eating, of course—the (leftover) turkey pot pie was great—and later Apples to Apples and cards. My iPhone came in handy for looking up the rules to Asshole, a card game we'd played while on vacation at Kelleys Island. I was kind of surprised to find it listed under that name, along with other variations like President, and Capitalism. I was more surprised to find that it's based on a Japanese, and earlier Chinese, card game. There are many variations, so we gradually came to agree on a set of rules that seemed similar to what we'd played before.
The day was a great post-Thanksgiving bit of socializing with our Chicago-Cleveland-New Hampshire intergenerational crew.
