Move to Mürren
We left the Mountain Hostel and walked to Mürren, a low-key resort town about 30 minutes from Gimmelwald. We tried to get rooms at several of the smaller places recommended by Rick Steves but had no luck. We stopped in at several hotels and found them to be pretty expensive. Our best bet seemed to be the Hotel Alpina, which had a room for about $150.
We lucked out and got Room 31, a large corner room with a wrap-around balcony, the top one in the photo.
As soon as we walked into the room we knew we'd made the right decision in leaving the Mountain Hostel. The view was fantastic, and we spent as much time as we could enjoying the balcony.
The hotel itself shows some signs of age but is clean and well-maintained. Roger, the hotel proprietor, was friendly and took care of everything we needed. It was a comfortable, friendly place to spend a couple of days.
Rösti again, this time with onions and bratwurst. This is the kind of thing I make for breakfast, although I'd probably have smoked beef sausage at home. We ate at the Hotel Alpenblick restaurant where the food was good, the service friendly, and the prices quite reasonable.
