Watching the weather
It seems fitting on this very cold first day of Winter to talk about one of my favorite features on the iPhone, the Weather application. Obviously it's helpful to set it for your home city to keep track of the temperature and weather predictions for the week ahead. The real fun, though, is to set it to monitor the weather in cities you're traveling to. I've kept mine set for a batch of cities I visited in my recent cross-country trip, plus a few others.
Strange as it may seem, I find that flipping through the weather city by city stirs my memories of them in a very real way. This is helped by the software's graphics, which change to show day/night as well as current conditions (snow, rain, etc.)
I've added other places, like Brookline, NH where my daughter lives, and Toronto, Ont., home to a former Cleveland friend as a way of feelng more in touch.
Geeky? I suppose. But interesting. Since I hate the call quality of cell phones I rarely use mine as a phone, but love it for its other capabilities. You can see more iPhone tricks here: Where am I?/Fishy, fishy.
