Amsterdam, again.
If there was any doubt about the inferior quality of the City NIght Line, this photo may help clarify things. The grungy engine was empty as we waited for about a half hour for the engineer to arrive.
As we arrived in Amsterdam we saw a row of wind turbines next to a power plant, again reinforcing how widespread renewable energy generation is becoming in Europe while we in the U.S. still act as if it's a crazy new idea.
We wandered around the city all afternoon and stopped at a cafe for a light supper. This is a typical scene: the street has few cars on it, but people and bicycles are abundant. Make for enjoyable people-watching.
Later, as we walked back to Central Station to catch our last European train on the last day of our Eurail pass, you again see lots of people and a tram, but no cars. For a city of its size and energy, Amsterdam is refreshingly free of traffic.
