Heading home
As we walked into the terminal at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport I had to take this picture of what appears to be long-term parking...for bikes. Similar heavy-duty bike lockers appeared at some train stations too.
After a relatively quick security interview and screening we went to Gate 7 where the plane that would take us to Newark waited. No doubt about it, our vacation was just about over.
The flight was uneventful and relatively comfortable. Seven hours went pretty quickly. Still, it may seem kind of silly, but I was happy when "Cleveland" first showed up on the plane's in-flight map. We were pretty close to home.
The last leg: the sun sets as we ride the Rapid from Cleveland Hopkins Airport to the station near the West Side Market. From there the walk home would take about ten minutes. After all the trains we'd ridden in the last two weeks, this was no big deal.
Although it's always a little sad to return to one's regular life after a trip, it felt good to be home.
back home, 10:15 pm (4:15 am body time)
sitting in the living room with a breeze blowing the curtains, cooling the house. trip back was long but uneventful, exactly what you want in a plane trip. the chicken with potatoes, beans and carrots was surprisingly good, or maybe i was just hungry.
called danny & mom to let them know we were back ok, now i don't need to feel guilty.
it's pretty hot in cleveburg, but the breeze makes it very tolerable. still, it's the hottest day since before I left nearly 3 wks ago. in europe it never got this hot even during the day.
rode the rapid back, with mostly TSA workers, a few security guards and other workers, and two travelers. clevelanders still haven't given up driving to the airport. Nine messages on the answering machine - they can definitely wait til tomorrow. i'd hoped for an interesting email or two, but no such luck.
my eyes are starting to feel tired, burning - time to call it a night, i guess.
